National Ballroom Dance Week

September 17 - 26, 2010
This annual celebration of ballroom dancing will be held throughout the Mainland US and is organized by local chapters of USA Dance (a national nonprofit organization).

Q: What do you call a three-hundred pound gorilla-ballerina?
A: Whatever she wants you to call her!

Since the people in Town generally ignore it, I would hope that something could be done in West Oahu. The rest of us can join in the celebration to increase awareness by dancers and non-dancers. Waianae Coast is moving although slowly and we have work to do on the North Shore.

We can also be organizing and promoting the activities, in coordination with local amateur and professional dancers. Perhaps next year we can have the first American Style dance or Unversal competitions in West Oahu.

The Annual National Ballroom Dance Week is designed to promote the health, social, artistic and personal growth benefits of ballroom dancing to the public. Specifically, to increase public awareness and appreciation of dancing as a means to:

Get exercise in a fun way and increase coordination and balance. Express oneself artistically and meet new people and socialize (excellent for singles.) Introduce social manners to youth and gain confidence in social settings.

Enjoy the challenge of learning new things and enjoy the stimulation of competition (if that appeals to you.) Learn more about the various dances and forms of dancing and learn where to go to get started dancing.

All the good things that we want to share with those that have been unlucky. There are many of us that are willing to help in our own way.

I suppose the competitions could be held here
when it is finished in Ewa.
