Arthur Murray Hawaii represented well at the 2010 Superama competition in Las Vegas and both students and teachers had a truly amazing time.   This year's competition was at the beautiful Wynn hotel with the whimsical theme of "Wonderland."

All together, seven of the studio's students were in attendance: Theresa and Tom Tomimbang, Kenji and Kai Iwasa, Shauna Masaki, Ginger Fenna and Tessie Cabral--with Shauna, Ginger and Tessie competing.

After arriving there on Tuesday, Gisella surprised the competing students and teachers with Hawaii Team Jackets!

Then, students and teachers were treated to a night of extravagance at the Cher concert in the Caesar's Palace Hotel.   Seeing Cher perform helped everyone to tap into their inner dance diva and get revved up for the competition.

The next day, Wednesday, was the first night of competition and the "Closed Category" portion of the smooth and rhythm dances.  This portion was strictly freestyle and competitors were limited to Arthur Murray syllabus steps at the current level or below.  Because Superama had a record-breaking amount of dancers and entries this year, Ginger and Shauna had to dance qualifying rounds in the Associate Bronze and Full Bronze level.  They both fared well and each made it to the final round for several dances.

The next day held the final rounds of the Closed Category Competitions and the qualifying and final rounds for all Specialty dances (like Salsa, West Coast Swing, and Argentine Tango).  Again, both students did well and made it to the finals for a number of dances and placed in the top 3 in some!

On Friday, Superama turned up the volume with the Open Category portion of the competition in the smooth and rhythm dances.  In the Open Category, competitors were allowed to do routines and step outside of their current dance levels.   This brought out the competitive spirit in Shauna and Ginger, and both were impressed with their dancing-ultimately, winning them several Gold medals and even a couple of Gold with Honors which recognizes them as the top in their categories.

To add to this, that night both girls wowed the crowd with their wonderful solos:  Shauna danced a Bolero, receiving comments back from the adjudicators such as "very dynamic and well expressed" and "you rock at a performance level."  Ginger danced a Rumba and her feedback included "exciting routine and lovely presentation" and "this is your strongest area."

But the fun did not stop there.  The next morning, Arthur Murray Hawaii sizzled with their "Fever" formation.  Shauna, Tessie and the instructors danced a Foxtrot/Cabaret style number that gave audiences a taste of something different.

After that, things got even better with the Scholarship Rounds and the Professional Competitions.  The level of dancing was remarkable and inspirational to say the least.  There was even a performance by the current US/World Smooth Champions.

The evening's festivities continued with a lavish cocktail party and dinner. Every year there is a Parade of Flags, showcasing the competition's participating studios from around the world and the United States, showcasing their regional flags-with Hawaii having the loudest crowd support.

The next day was Halloween and a wrap up day for the competition.  Although there was no dancing on this day, students and Superama participants were able to take in the whole experience and get ready for one last night on the town.  That night, the entire city of Las Vegas was taken over by dancers!

All together, Superama 2010 was unforgettable and Arthur Murray Hawaii looks forward to an even more wonderful time next year.  Will you be ready for Vegas next year?
