Growing plants on the wall

interesting design

A living digital organism growing on the walls and floors of an indoor space. The plants are not predrawn or animated, but uniquely generated by the software and the space they reside in.

A Lightweeds consists of a several hundred parts that are independently linked to the sensors outside, creating a hyper-real motion that is constantly live generated. At the start of the day they are few, but as the space is being used they pollenate from wall to wall and increase in amount. Their seeds travel along with passing people, and make new plants grow.

When someone passes, the plants bend and show the path of human traffic.

Lightweeds is exhibited in Rotterdam, London, New York, Paris, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Beijing and Tokyo.

Brilliant work by Simon Heijdens. Read in details: Lightweeds.
